Demonstrations - Alliance plans major demonstration against anti-Semitism in Berlin

An alliance under the patronage of Bundestag President Bärbel Bas (SPD) is planning a large demonstration in Berlin on December 10 as a sign against anti-Semitism. "All citizens are called upon to show their faces in the middle of Berlin for peaceful and respectful coexistence and to oppose anti-Semitism, hatred, racism and xenophobia," it said in a statement on Thursday.

The demonstration is to lead from the Victory Column to the Brandenburg Gate in the afternoon. In addition to Bas, Berlin's governing mayor Kai Wegner (CDU), singer Roland Kaiser, Israeli ambassador Ron Prosor and publicist Michel Friedman are to speak. The motto of the event is "Never again is now". Bas emphasized that it was very important for as many people as possible to come together in Berlin on 10 December for peaceful coexistence.

The event is backed by a number of well-known personalities as well as several companies, the Christian churches, the German Football Association and others.
