Alliance plans major demonstration against anti-Semitism in Berlin
An alliance under the patronage of Bundestag President Bärbel Bas (SPD) is planning a large demonstration in Berlin on December 10 as a sign against anti-Semitism. "All citizens are called upon to show their faces in the middle of Berlin for peaceful and respectful coexistence and to oppose anti-Semitism, hatred, racism and xenophobia," it said in a statement on Thursday.
The demonstration is to lead from the Victory Column to the Brandenburg Gate in the afternoon. In addition to Bas, Berlin's governing mayor Kai Wegner (CDU), singer Roland Kaiser, Israeli ambassador Ron Prosor and publicist Michel Friedman are to speak. The motto of the event is "Never again is now". Bas emphasized that it was very important for as many people as possible to come together in Berlin on 10 December for peaceful coexistence.
The event is backed by a number of well-known personalities as well as several companies, the Christian churches, the German Football Association and others.
The alliance's call for demonstrations against anti-Semitism includes standing up against extremism and racism, as Bas emphasized that all forms of hatred, including anti-Semitism, have no place in the peaceful coexistence they aim to promote. The event, titled "Never again is now," has garnered support from various individuals and organizations, including those who strongly oppose extremist views linked to Judaism misconceptions.
