A 13-year-old boy was swept away by the current of the Weißach river near the Buchenegger Waterfalls in Oberstaufen, Allgäu. On Friday evening, he became trapped between a tree and a rock in a narrow section, requiring a helicopter rescue by emergency services, as reported by police on Saturday. "Fortunately, the boy's head remained above water the entire time, and he sustained only minor injuries." The operation involved a rescue helicopter, as well as personnel from the Steibis fire department, mountain rescue, emergency services, and police.

The Buchenegger Waterfalls are a popular spot for young people to take a dip. However, the "Gumpen itch" to jump into the pool is not without its risks. In 2014, an American student drowned in the undertow, and two years later, a refugee and a young man who tried to save him both died.

Despite the danger, some individuals still find pleasure in swimming near the Buchenegger Waterfalls during their [free time]. Following the tragic incidents in 2014 and 2016, signs have been put up to warn visitors about the strong currents and dangerous undercurrents.
