- Allegedly Involved PKK Individual Detained in Frankfurt
The German Law Enforcement detained an individual suspected of belonging to the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) at Frankfurt Airport. As per the authorities in Karlsruhe, this individual was in custody in Italy since mid-June, following a European arrest warrant. They were then transferred to Germany, accused of being a part of a foreign terrorist organization.
This Turkish national is alleged to have been an active full-time member of the PKK from January 2014 to July 2015, as the German Law Enforcement additionally disclosed. In this capacity, they reportedly carried out the standard leadership responsibilities of a sector leader. This included organizing propaganda events and meetings, giving orders, and overseeing the completion of tasks assigned to subordinate cadres and activists.
The individual was apprehended by German law enforcement upon their arrival at Frankfurt Airport on a Friday. They were subsequently presented before a judge from the Federal Court of Justice on Saturday, who issued the arrest warrant. The individual is now being held in custody.
The German Law Enforcement considers the PKK a foreign terrorist organization responsible for numerous bombings and attacks in Turkey. The PKK has been prohibited from operating in Germany since 1993.
After being transferred from Italy, the individual, accused of being a PKK member, is now facing charges in Germany. Despite the PKK being banned in Germany since 1993, this individual's alleged activities have led to their detention.
