Justice - Alleged knife attack on police officer: indictment

The public prosecutor's office in Waldshut-Tiengen has brought charges against a 28-year-old man who allegedly attacked a police officer from a special unit with a knife in March. The defendant is accused of attempted murder, as the prosecutor's office announced on Friday.

The previously convicted man was supposed to be arrested at home in the vicinity of Waldshut-Tiengen about three months ago due to a warrant. He attempted to flee during an altercation, during which he allegedly injured the officer in the face and shoulder area.

The 28-year-old is reportedly German, according to earlier police reports. He is said to have at least tacitly accepted causing fatal injuries to his victim, the prosecutor's office now reports. The officer, despite being injured, managed to defend himself. The assailant then fell several meters deep and injured himself. The local district court must now decide whether the indictment will be admitted and whether there will be a trial.

  1. The indictment for attempted murder was issued by the public prosecutor's office in Baden-Württemberg's Waldshut-Tiengen, following the knife attack on a police officer.
  2. The arrested 28-year-old, allegedly responsible for the crime in March, is currently facing prosecution from the prosecuting authority in Waldshut-Tiengen.
  3. The knife attack perpetrator, who attacked a police officer from a special unit, had previously evaded arrest at his home near Waldshut-Tiengen due to a warrant.
  4. The justice system in Baden-Württemberg, specifically the local district court in Waldshut-Tiengen, will now assess the admissibility of the indictment and decide on a potential trial.
