Law enforcement operation - Alleged assailant apprehended following gunfire incident in Hagen.
A 34-year-old man, believed to have shot at four people in Hagen, was nabbed within a day of the incident during a massive search operation. The suspect, who didn't resist arrest, was captured on Sunday afternoon at around 2:40 p.m., approximately 3 km away from the crime scenes in a rural area, confirmed a representative of the Dortmund police.
The ongoing search for the perpetrator began on Saturday morning following two separate shootings - one at a residential building and the other at a hair salon. It is believed that the suspect first shot his wife in their shared apartment, inflicting severe head injuries. Subsequently, he allegedly fired several times at a door on another floor, but thankfully, no one was hurt there.
The same suspect then headed to a nearby hair salon and fired at three more individuals. Interestingly, both crime scenes were located just ten minutes apart on foot. So far, authorities have suggested that the motive behind this tragic incident might be rooted in family matters.
The police and prosecutor provided some updates regarding the victims' condition on Sunday. They stated that the injuries of two of the four victims were "critical," affecting the wife of the alleged perpetrator and an individual from the hair salon. However, they avoided disclosing any further details like the age or gender of the injured individuals. All four injured people are currently receiving medical treatment in various hospitals.
Following the crime, the suspect drove his vehicle to a nearby parking lot before escaping on foot. During the extensive search for him, a helicopter was deployed on Saturday. The police had been actively following up on tips from the public and even briefly surveilled a supermarket. They later focused their efforts on a wooded area, encouraging extreme caution in the process. A tip line was set up to gather any valuable leads, which ultimately led to the arrest of the suspect.
According to the police's official statement, the man was located and apprehended on Sunday, shortly after the authorities initiated a public manhunt with his picture and name. They clarified that the arrest occurred on "open land." No weapon was discovered with the suspect, although he reportedly pointed out its location.
