This incident dates back to 2019, when a dispute over child custody led to the allegations. During this time, the children's passports were seized. However, contrary to regulations, the mother managed to obtain new passports from the local registration bureau. The women are accused of taking their sons to Bolivia on October 22, 2019, evading authorities until their extradition in March 2023.

The local court in Güstrow, known for handling various processes, will now preside over this high-profile child abduction case, involving a mother and her grandmother.

The German government has requested assistance from Bolivian authorities in resolving this matter, hoping to ensure the well-being and safety of the children involved.

Women's rights organizations worldwide have expressed concern over this case, highlighting the vulnerability of children in custody disputes and the necessity for comprehensive support systems.

This trial in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's County of Rostock could potentially set a precedent in Germany's legal proceedings regarding child abductions and custody disputes.
