Water levels - All-clear after flooding on some rivers
After flooding on some rivers in Lower Saxony, the situation is normalizing. "We assume that the flood situation will now ease for the time being," said a spokesperson for the Lower Saxony Water Management, Coastal Defence and Nature Conservation Agency (NLWKN) on Friday.
According to the authority, reporting level two of four was recently exceeded in some places on the Aller and Leine rivers. Agricultural and forestry areas in particular were flooded. In many places, the soil was very saturated with water and could no longer absorb much, it said. Persistent rainfall and melting snow in the Harz Mountains had led to higher water levels in many bodies of water.
However, the NLWKN spokesperson said that there had been no more significant rainfall since Thursday. The water levels in the Aller, Leine and Oker river basins were still high at the weekend. However, no major flooding was to be feared.

The flooding was particularly severe in agricultural and forestry areas due to the water being unable to absorb into the heavily saturated soil. The flood situation in Hanover, part of Lower Saxony, was caused by persistent rainfall and melting snow in the Harz Mountains, leading to elevated water levels. Despite the high water levels, the spokesperson from NLWKN assured that no major flooding was expected. The agency reported that the flood situation in Lower Saxony, specifically in the Aller and Leine rivers, is expected to ease for the time being.
