Severe weather condition approaching. - Alert issued for Danube River: water levels decrease in Switzerland.
In Switzerland, the floods started to ease on Sunday due to decreasing rainfall. But danger levels still existed along the Upper Rhine, from Waldshut-Tiengen in Germany till Basel, and on Lake Constance. These areas were still at a warning level 3 out of 5, or "significant danger." People were advised to stay away from the rivers' banks.
On Saturday, some smaller rivers overflowed, making a few roads impassable because of landslides caused by rainwater. The fire department had to pump out several cellars in the Zurich region as well as in the cantons of Thurgau and St. Gallen. On Saturday, the Zurich Lake and Lake of Four Cantons reached their highest levels. Despite the overflowing, no major floods occurred. Fortunately, the water levels decreased again. Unfortunately, the meteorologists predicted more rain showers until Monday afternoon in the central and eastern Alps' foothills and surrounding lowlands.
