Consumers - Aldi lowers coffee prices - other retail chains follow suit
In the week before Christmas, Aldi cuts its coffee prices significantly. Edeka, Rewe, Penny and Netto have announced that they will follow suit.
The discounters Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd announced that they would be permanently reducing the prices of their own brands Barissimo and Moreno from today. This applies to ground coffee, whole beans, coffee pods and soluble coffee, for organic and normal varieties. The 500 gram pack of ground coffee will be 50 cents cheaper, the 1 kilo pack of beans will cost 70 cents less.
The retail chains Edeka, Rewe, Penny and Netto have announced that they will reduce the prices of their own brands by a similar amount. This should happen "soon", explained a Rewe spokesperson. Lidl and Kaufland did not want to comment on planned price reductions.
Coffee - similar to bread, butter and milk - is considered a corner price item that customers use as a guide for price perception.
