Alcohol abuse: almost 1400 young people in hospital
Almost 1,400 young people were treated in hospital for alcohol abuse in Baden-Württemberg last year. This was significantly fewer than before the pandemic, according to the State Statistical Office in Stuttgart on Monday. In 2019, there were 2517 such cases of alcohol-related hospital treatment. In 2022, 1397 young people were hospitalized for this reason - slightly fewer than in the previous year with 1453.
The young people aged between 13 and 19 were mainly treated for "acute intoxication". According to a spokesperson, other reasons include alcohol dependency and other alcohol-related illnesses such as liver cirrhosis.
The alarming rate of alcohol-related diseases among youth is a concerning trend. despite the decrease in hospitalizations for alcohol abuse in recent years, alcohol dependency and liver cirrhosis remain significant health issues among young people.
