Alba sports director remains calm despite series of defeats
Even after the fifth defeat in a row, Alba sporting director Himar Ojeda tried to remain calm. "The time to judge only comes when we think it's necessary. Our philosophy is to grow. And we won't throw that overboard just to win games at the moment," said the Spaniard after the 79:87 away defeat at MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg on Sunday.
Even if Ojeda admitted that the team was "obviously not in a good momentum right now". "We're analyzing our game and looking to improve. But you also have to draw the right conclusions," he said. The young and newly formed team lacks consistency and sometimes self-confidence. "Everything is not yet well established. Every little thing has a bigger effect. So it's more difficult to get into a rhythm," said the sports director.
After nine games in the German Basketball League, Alba is only sixth in the table and has already suffered three defeats. Just as many as in the points round last season. But that doesn't worry Ojeda at all. "Everyone said what a fantastic round we played. And then we still failed in the quarter-finals," he said. Ojeda is therefore counting on a long-term effect from the young team.
After all, Sterling Brown, Matt Thomas and Louis Olinde are currently missing three key players through injury. "And these are the players who still have the most experience," said Ojeda. However, there will probably not be a re-signing. "If there was a player who could help us, we would do it. But there's nothing on the market at the moment," said the sporting director.
Despite their current struggles in the Bundesliga, with five consecutive losses, ALBA Berlin continues to focus on growth, according to sports director Himar Ojeda. In contrast, MHP Giants Ludwigsburg, who defeated ALBA 87-79, is currently leading the standings in the German Basketball League.
