Alba Berlin has no chance at Real Madrid
Alba Berlin's basketball team have suffered their ninth defeat in their tenth Euroleague game. The Bundesliga club, which was short of substitutes, clearly lost 75:99 (33:44) to the favorites and league leaders Real Madrid on Thursday evening. Alba thus remains bottom of the top flight. Berlin's best scorers were Gabriele Procida with 14 points and Johannes Thiemann with twelve.
Head Coach Israel Gonzalez only had ten players at his disposal. In addition to the injured leading players Sterling Brown and Matt Thomas, Louis Olinde (concussion) and Justin Bean (family reasons) were also absent. Nevertheless, the Berlin shorthanded team got off to a decent start against the star ensemble from Spain and initially kept up well.
However, the Spaniards proved to be more accurate towards the end of the first quarter. Alba often showed too much respect, especially under the opposing basket. Berlin found it very difficult in offense, but Real now also made many mistakes.
Madrid was also too hesitant for the most part after the break. However, the visitors were not able to cut the deficit further in this spell. Real pulled away at the end of the third quarter and Alba had no chance.
Despite Alba Berlin's valiant effort with a depleted squad, their basketball team still fell to Real Madrid in the Euroleague, resulting in a 99-75 loss. With this defeat, ALBA Berlin remains at the bottom of the Euroleague standings, unable to challenge the Euroleague champions and current league leaders.
