Basketball Bundesliga - Alba Berlin boosts self-confidence ahead of Euroleague week
Alba Berlin 's basketball players were finally able to regain some confidence. "It's proof that the team spirit is intact and there. It helps the team to keep believing in its own game," said sporting director Himar Ojeda after the 90:85 away win at EWE Baskets Oldenburg on Sunday.
The team had previously only won one of its last ten competitive games. "We have a lot to make up for. And we've taken one of the first steps to do that," said wing Louis Olinde. Alba showed its will in the final phase in Oldenburg, turning around a game that was almost thought to be lost in the final six minutes. "It was important for a positive mindset and of course it's easier with victories," said Ojeda.
And Alba will also need confidence in the last two games before Christmas. The Berliners will host two heavyweights in the Euroleague in their two home games. They face FC Barcelona on Tuesday (8 p.m.) and Fenerbahce Istanbul on Friday (8:15 p.m., both on Magentasport). "It looks a bit daunting and will be another big challenge," admitted Ojeda.
Olinde is also aware of the difficulty of the task. "These are teams that are at a very high European level," he said. Nevertheless, the 25-year-old is hoping for a surprise. "We've shown time and again that we can keep up with teams like this. And of course we hope we can steal a win or two," he said.
