Alba Berlin also without a chance against Maccabi Tel Aviv
Alba Berlin's basketball team is still in crisis. On Thursday evening, the Berliners lost 81:102 (42:58) to Israeli series champions Maccabi Telv Aviv in the Euroleague in Belgrade. It was Alba's sixth defeat in a row and its tenth defeat in the top flight in its eleventh game. Berlin's best scorers were Gabriele Procida with 22 points and Johannes Thiemann and Justion Bean with eleven apiece.
The team of Head Coach Israel Gonzalez went into the game badly decimated. In addition to the injured Sterling Brown, Matt Thomas and Louis Olinde, point guard Ziga Samar (tendinitis) also joined them at short notice. And the decimated Berlin side did not get off to a good start. They were almost overrun by Maccabi at times. The Israelis scored almost everything, whereas Alba scored very little.
The deficit had already grown to 23 points at the start of the second quarter (17:40). However, the Berliners then recovered. Procida's points in particular brought them back to within nine points before the break (38:49). However, Maccabi was able to respond before half-time.
The encounter was more evenly poised for a long time after the break. Not least because both teams no longer played with the utmost consistency. In the end, however, Maccabi played out the game with ease. Alba had no chance in the end.
Despite Alba Berlin's valiant efforts, they struggled against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Euroleague. Gabriele Procida's impressive performance with 22 points wasn't enough to secure a win, as Alba Berlin lost to Maccabi Tel Aviv, a team known for its dominance, such as in their series championship in Israel.
