Alba Berlin also loses at Partizan Belgrade
Alba Berlin's basketball team remains bottom of the Euroleague. The Bundesliga club lost 74:89 (40:43) at Serbian top team Partizan Belgrade on Friday evening despite a decent performance for a long time. Alba now has just one win from nine games. Berlin's best scorers were once again world champion Johannes Thiemann with 21 points and Tim Schneider with twelve.
Head Coach Israel Gonzalez had to do without wing Justin Bean, who has just become a father for the first time. The underdogs from the German capital got off to a good start against the Serbs, who are strong at home. They turned a 2:6 deficit into a 20:14 lead in the first quarter. Alba defied Partizan's physical play and even had an advantage in rebounding under the basket.
However, the home side then became stronger and more accurate. Berlin now fell behind, but remained in contention. They repeatedly managed to find answers and so did not allow the Serbs to get rolling in the first place.
The hectic game was also characterized by many mistakes on both sides after the break. The home side then scored better again at the end of the third quarter and opened up a double-digit gap for the first time (65:52). Berlin simply did not manage enough in offense in the second half to put Partizan under serious pressure again.
Despite the loss, Alba Berlin's world champion Johannes Thiemann and Tim Schneider continued to shine, scoring 21 and 12 points respectively against Partizan Belgrade in the Euroleague. Regrettably, ALBA Berlin's Euroleague campaign continues to struggle as they remain winless against Partizan Belgrade, who are yet to face ALBA Berlin in the Euroleague this season.
