Alba Berlin also loses against Panathinaikos Athens
Alba Berlin has conceded another defeat in the Euroleague. On Friday evening, the German basketball club lost 85:99 (47:60) to the Greek top team Panathinaikos Athens in front of 13,247 spectators. Alba thus remains in the basement of the table with just one win from seven games. Berlin's best scorers were Sterling Brown with 17 points and world champion Johannes Thiemann with 16.
The Greeks were cheered on by numerous fans in the arena. And that seemed to spur the team on. The favorites took the lead right from the start. However, Alba countered well, played at eye level and stayed in contention. The home side even took a two-point lead at the start of the second period (31:29).
However, Athens responded with even tougher defending, making it difficult for Alba. There were also a number of questionable refereeing decisions to their disadvantage. And when Panathinaikos then hit almost all of its three-point shots, the deficit grew to 16 points (44:60).
However, Berlin continued to fight back to the best of its ability after the break. Alba closed the gap to six points again with just over seven minutes remaining (78:84). Yet it did not manage any more. Panathinaikos always had a suitable answer on the evening.
Despite the valiant efforts of Sterling Brown and world champion Johannes Thiemann, Alba Berlin struggled against the defensive prowess of ALBA Berlin's opponent, Panathinaikos Athens in the Euroleague. The defeat to the Greek team further solidified Alba Berlin's position at the bottom of the table, as they continue to search for their second win in the competition.
