Airport: Highest number of passengers since the start of the pandemic
In October, Hamburg Airport recorded its highest passenger volume since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. "A total of 1.45 million passengers were counted - more than at any time since 2019," the airport company announced on Friday. "In the second week of October, which coincided with the first departure weekend of the fall vacations, a new weekly high of 342,000 passengers was also achieved." Compared to 2019, the number of departing and arriving passengers was reportedly 90 percent higher.
"Passenger numbers at Hamburg Airport are continuing to approach pre-corona levels. After a strong summer season, air travel is also in demand in October," said airport spokeswoman Katja Bromm. "That shows: Northern Germans want to be mobile and travel by plane." The preferred destinations for this year's autumn vacations were sunny regions such as Mallorca, the Canary Islands, Greece and Turkey.
The surge in air travel has positively impacted air traffic at Hamburg Airport, with a significant increase in departures and arrivals. This revival in air traffic is particularly noticeable in the tourism sector, as many passengers are choosing to visit sunny destinations like Mallorca, the Canary Islands, Greece, and Turkey.
