- Aircraft of modest size meets an unfortunate fate in Austria's towering alpine peaks.
In the western Austrian Alps, a compact aircraft met with an unfortunate incident. Preliminary reports suggest that the pilot, believed to be Italian, was inside during the crash, as mentioned by a Vorarlberg region police officer to the German Press Agency. The mishap occurred close to the Brand municipality.
The rescue effort for the crash victim was hampered by thick clouds. Neither helicopters nor drones could take flight. As per Christian Gantner, Vorarlberg's Security Provincial Governor, the aircraft likely took off from Genoa, Italy, and was aiming for Straubing, Bavaria.
A few individuals in the Brüggele Alpe area reported hearing an aircraft and a subsequent loud sound. The police representative revealed it was also extremely foggy during that time. A salvage operation with approximately 200 people participating was started. However, only scattered debris has been found thus far. The precise crash site with the passenger cabin remains undiscovered. The search is set to resume on Tuesday, the spokesperson said.
The rescue operation faced setbacks due to the crash, as both helicopters and drones were unable to navigate through the thick clouds. The unfortunate incident may have caused significant damage to the aircraft, as only scattered debris has been located so far.
