Building process - Air travel limitations and road shutdown

Due to a discovered bomb at Frankfurt Airport, air traffic will be limited and a nearby autobahn will be closed on Friday evening. Fraport, the airport operator, informed the German Press Agency that two of the four runways for take-off and landing will be temporarily out of service. This could potentially cause delays and bottlenecks in the operational process, according to the spokesperson.

The specific time of the explosion and subsequent closure has yet to be determined. Fraport suggested a possible time frame of 5-9 pm. Travelers should allow for extra time when arriving at the airport and keep an eye on the flight status updates provided by the airlines' websites.

During construction work near the new Terminal 3, a phosphorus bomb was found on Friday. Police revealed that these bombs were commonly used during World War II.

The controlled detonation of the bomb is set to take place in the evening. In addition to shutting down specific runways, Autobahn 5, which passes by the airport, may also need to be closed. The police haven't announced any specific time frame or duration yet. They will notify the public at least 30 minutes before the closure through their X platform.

A safety perimeter of approximately 1000 meters has been established around the bomb site. The bomb disposal team is currently on-site.

The new Terminal 3 in Frankfurt is set to be completed in 2026. Approximately 4 billion euros will be invested, and the facility is expected to be able to process up to 19 million passengers annually.
