Emergencies - Air rescue often from neighboring federal states
Assistance for emergency patients in Sachsen-Anhalt often comes via helicopter – frequently from other Federal States. According to the Interior Ministry, there were approximately 7,600 air rescue missions flown in the past two years. Of these, around 5,680 were taken on by helicopters based in Magdeburg and Halle. Nearly 1,960 of these missions came from neighboring Federal States, which was almost every fourth air rescue mission. This information comes from the response of the state government to a small enquiry by SPD Landtagsabgeordnete Rüdiger Erben.
According to the given data, for example, there were 288 missions from Wolfenbüttel in Lower Saxony and 53 from Uelzen, 104 from Perleberg in Brandenburg, 727 from Leipzig in the south, 128 from Jena, and 459 from Nordhausen in Thuringia.
There is a discussion about an additional helicopter for the north of Sachsen-Anhalt. This could significantly improve care, particularly in the case of severe and time-critical illnesses, it is thought. The Interior Ministry stated regarding this: "The potential improvement in care through an additional helicopter base must be considered in the context of the currently ongoing hospital reform and the reform of emergency care." An order for an assessment should still be issued this summer.
Three helicopters in the state
The DRF Luftrettung is responsible for providing emergency medical care to the population from the air in Sachsen-Anhalt. Currently, there are three helicopters stationed at two locations in the state: Christoph 36 in Magdeburg and Christoph Halle and Christoph Sachsen-Anhalt in Halle. Christoph Sachsen-Anhalt is the intensive care helicopter of the state, which is on call around the clock.
The three helicopters reach their destinations within a radius of 60 kilometers in a maximum of 15 flight minutes, according to the DRF Stiftung Luftrettung. The crew consists of a pilot (at night two), a doctor, and a paramedic.
