Hot cities - Air-conditioning container to bring cooling to Göttingen
With a so-called Climate Container, Göttingen intends to prepare its inner city for climate change. The non-permanently mounted construction is intended to provide shade and cooling, as the city announced after its construction. The test model is also visually appealing and increases the living quality.
The Climate Container is a step towards a so-called climate-resilient city - that is, a city that remains livable even during extreme weather events. In this specific case, it is about particularly hot weather, which the Climate Container is intended to counteract as a cool place. "Especially on hot summer days, solutions are in demand to cool down overheated locations," the city stated.
The mobile installation is equipped with benches and, on the back wall, with climbing plants. It is mounted on a special container that serves as a water reservoir.
It concerns a prototype that is now to be tested. Developed and built was it by the city building yard of Göttingen. At other locations in the city, there are already other mobile green installations, which have been provisionally set up until the transformation of the street sections.
