Euro 2020 Football Tournament - Aiming to create history: England begins.
The British football squad made it to Germany and set up camp at the German training facility in Blankenhain. Under the leadership of Harry Kane, who plays for Bayern, the Three Lions touched down at Erfurt-Weimar airport on Monday night and then went to the Spa & Golf Resort Weimarer Land. Prior to their departure from the UK, Kane shared, "We know how important this is for the country and the fans. The entire nation unites during these times."
Despite a chaotic build-up, with a devastating loss to Iceland, the Gareth Southgate-led squad is tipped as a top contender for the championship. "We've got to show that we deserve to be among the top dogs," Kane, who is heading into his fifth significant tournament and has yet to claim a substantial win at the age of 30, declared.
England has been desperate for a major victory since they won the 1966 World Cup on home soil. "We're aiming to make history. We've been saying it again and again, but we've got a team and a coach who really think we can do it," midfielder Declan Rice expressed.
On Tuesday (3 PM), there will be a public training session in Jena. Training will start in Blankenhain on Wednesday. England's opening match at the Euros is set for Sunday (9 PM/ZDF/MagentaTV) against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen. Before their departure, Prince William paid a visit to the team in Burton-on-Trent.
