Parliament - Aigner and Söder: Problems must be solved in 2024

Bavaria's State Parliament President Ilse Aigner (CSU) has sent parliament off into the Christmas break with an appeal to politicians at federal and state level to tackle and solve problems. The year 2024 must be a "year of results", especially at federal level, said Aigner in her traditional closing words at the last plenary session before Christmas on Tuesday. "It is our responsibility to convince people of what we want and even more of what we do. It is our task not only to analyze and paint problems, but to solve them."

Obviously addressing the AfD, Aigner said that she would take a very close look and listen to the spirit prevailing in the House. And where necessary, she would take appropriate action. She emphasized that incitement of the people is unacceptable and unacceptable - without mentioning the AfD member of parliament Daniel Halemba by name, who is being investigated by the Würzburg public prosecutor's office for this reason, among others.

Minister President Markus Söder(CSU) also emphasized that they want to and will solve problems. In 2024, a jolt, a breakthrough, a leap forward is needed. "If we ignore problems, we will not make the world a better place." This should not be about ideological solutions, but about the "art of the possible".

AfD parliamentary group leader Katrin Ebner-Steiner was also allowed to make closing remarks for the first time, as the party came third in the state elections behind the CSU and the Free Voters, making it the largest opposition party.

However, Ebner-Steiner drew the ire of all other parliamentary groups with warnings of economic and cultural decline and criticism of "ruling ideologues". "Ugh!" and "Stop it!" were shouted at Ebner-Steiner by individual MPs.

Aigner reminded the AfD parliamentary group leader that it was actually a tradition for the closing words before Christmas to be conciliatory. In comparison with past decades, Söder said: "This House has never seen anything so conspiracy-theoretical, absurd, confusing and embarrassing."
