Development Minister Svenja Schulze is opposed to reducing her ministry's budget. She stated during the Catholic Day in Erfurt over the weekend, "It's undeniably clear that we aim to continue investing in development cooperation." This is advantageous not just for people overseas, but also for those in Germany. "If you don't merely wish to appeal to humanitarian and sympathy motives, you can also reference economic motives: For every second Euro earned in Germany, a portion comes from exports, which is why we'd be wise to invest in international politics and our relationships," explained the SPD politician.

Prior to this, Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) urged substantial savings from the Federal Budget 2025 in the Development Ministry. Schulze stated on Saturday, "The budget won't be made until the Bundestag approves it in December." In the meantime, "I'll make a case for more funding, not less, with the various organizations we collaborate with on development initiatives."

The minister participated in the launch of a project by the international Catholic aid group missio on Saturday. Using a mobile exhibit in a "missio-Truck" trailer, the organization intends to educate people in Germany about various kinds of modern slavery and how they connect to consumption patterns in the Western world.

The 103rd Catholic Day began on Wednesday in Erfurt. The event's organizers anticipate that it will attract around 20,000 men and women by Sunday's conclusion. In addition to religious subjects, the program includes matters of social and political significance.
