Aid extended after severe storms
The aid package following the severe storms at the end of August can now also be claimed by victims from the district of Augsburg. There too, heavy rain, wind and tennis ball-sized hailstones caused extensive damage to forests and fields, destroyed windows and damaged cars and houses. A 1.5 million euro aid program initially only applied to the districts of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Aichach-Friedberg, which were also badly affected. It has now been extended geographically, as the district office in Augsburg announced on Thursday.
This means that injured parties can apply to the tax office for tax relief. In certain cases, municipalities can also make use of support programs to restore the municipal infrastructure. Emergency aid may also be possible for hardship cases where there is damage that threatens the existence of the company or a lack of insurance, it said.
The weather during the storm was particularly harsh in Swabia, with heavy rain, strong winds, and tennis ball-sized hailstones causing significant damage. Due to the extent of the damage, emergency aid may also be available for affected individuals and businesses in Swabia, beyond the initial aid package for certain districts.
