Finances - Ahnen 2024 Chairwoman of the Conference of Finance Ministers
Rhineland-Palatinate Finance Minister Doris Ahnen has been elected Chair of the Conference of Finance Ministers (FMK) for the coming year. The current, mutually reinforcing crises continue to pose a major challenge for public budgets, the SPD politician explained in Mainz on Thursday. It was therefore particularly important in the current times to continue the cooperation between the federal states and the federal government in the Finance Ministers' Conference.
The FMK is made up of the finance ministers of the 16 federal states. It meets approximately once a month and coordinates the federal states on important budgetary, financial and tax policy issues. The chairperson chairs the meetings, pools the interests of the federal states and represents the decisions of the conference to the Federal Ministry of Finance. As Chair of the FMK, Ahnen also chairs the Stability Council together with the Federal Minister of Finance.

In her new role as Chair of the Finance Ministers' Conference (FMK), Doris Ahnen from Rhineland-Palatinate will also chair the Stability Council alongside the Federal Minister of Finance. Due to the ongoing financial challenges, it's crucial for Ahnen to maintain cooperation between the federal states and the federal government within the FMK, especially given the conference's role in coordinating budgetary, financial, and tax policy matters for the 16 federal states.
