Agreement on container accommodation on Tempelhofer Feld
After weeks of wrangling, the Berlin Senate has reached an agreement on additional container accommodation for refugees on Tempelhofer Feld. The Senate Department for Labor and Social Affairs confirmed a corresponding report by RBB on Wednesday. According to Senate administration circles, a Senate task force reached a broad agreement on Tuesday on a necessary amendment to the Tempelhofer Feld Act, which has so far practically prohibited further development on the site.
The amendment should make it possible to expand areas in the north of the field on Columbiadamm for additional container accommodation. However, an area in the south-west on Tempelhofer Damm, which was also under discussion, is off the table, according to Senate circles. As compensation for this area, the corresponding development of a parking lot in the direction of Tempelhofer Damm is to be examined.
The Berlin Senate, which reached an agreement on container accommodation for refugees, will now need Senate approval for the necessary amendment to the Tempelhofer Feld Act. Such approval may come from the German Senate, as they hold the power to make such decisions regarding refugee accommodation and development sites like Tempelhofer Feld.
