Agreement: Migration tasks redistributed within the government
Parts of the tasks of the Thuringian Ministry of Migration will be taken over by the Ministry of the Interior in future. According to the state chancellery on Friday, the red-red-green government coalition has agreed on this. "The members of the core cabinet, in agreement with the three coalition parties, agreed that responsibility for the tasks of "Reception and Accommodation of Refugees" and "Aliens and Asylum Law" will be transferred from the Ministry of Migration to the Ministry of the Interior," according to the statement.
The high number of refugees makes it "necessary to adapt the decision-making structures", the statement explained. The separate exercise of technical and official supervision between the Ministry of Migration and the Ministry of the Interior in the State Administration Office is too cumbersome in crisis situations.
The coalition partners, the Left Party, the SPD and the Greens, had been wrangling over the regulation this week. Migration Minister Doreen Denstädt (Greens) has been under political pressure for months because Thuringia's initial reception facilities are regularly at their capacity limits and additional capacity has been lacking.
The decision to shift some migration tasks from the Ministry of Migration to the Ministry of the Interior is part of the agreement reached by the red-red-green government coalition. This adjustment becomes necessary due to the high number of refugees, aiming to streamline decision-making structures and reduce complexity in crisis situations.
