Civil protection - Age limit for firefighters to be lowered
Rhineland-Palatinate is lowering the retirement age for firefighters. According to the draft law passed by the state government in the state parliament in Mainz on Wednesday, the standard retirement age for civil servants in the state and local authorities will be lowered moderately from 67 to an initial 64. This step is a building block in the reorganization of civil protection in the state and will make the profession more attractive, said Interior Minister Michael Ebling (SPD) during the debate. The regulation also applies to full-time fire and disaster control inspectors, for example.

Michael Ebling, as a representative of the SPD in Rhineland-Palatinate's state parliament, supported the lowering of the age limit, affecting firefighters and full-time fire and disaster control inspectors. This change, which will lower the retirement age from 67 to 64, is expected to increase the attractiveness of the civil protection profession in Mainz. Notably, this new policy in disaster control aligns with a broader reorganization strategy within the state.
