After the failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump, Chinese businesses reportedly reacted quickly, according to a report by the Hong Kong newspaper "South China Morning Post". Within a few hours of the incident in Pennsylvania, T-Shirts featuring an image of the former president with a bloodied cheek and raised fist in front of a US flag were available on major Chinese E-Commerce platforms.

The first T-Shirt offers on Taobao, a Chinese E-Commerce platform, were reportedly posted less than three hours after the incident. A Chinese seller told the newspaper that she began selling the T-Shirts as soon as she read the news. She received over 2000 orders. Other sellers in China quickly followed suit and began offering similar T-Shirts.

Advertising articles for US Elections from China

Meanwhile, it seems that the offers have since been removed for unknown reasons, as a search on major Chinese platforms on Tuesday revealed. A search by the British broadcaster BBC also found that the T-Shirts were no longer available. The Chinese internet is heavily censored by the government. Advertisements in Chinese online shops can also be affected by state controls.

Chinese companies are known for producing advertising articles in large quantities for the US elections and selling them in the US.

The assassination attempt was a topic on Chinese social media. Many users wrote that Trump's behavior after the shots improved his chances of re-election. Other internet commentators joked about the loose gun laws in the US.

  1. The "South China Morning Post" reported that the swift reaction of Chinese businesses post-assassination attempt on Donald Trump drew attention, with T-Shirts featuring the former president available on Taobao within hours.
  2. The seller on Taobao, based in China, claimed to have started selling the controversial T-Shirts immediately after learning about the incident, receiving an overwhelming response with over 2000 orders.
  3. Diplomacy between the USA and China might face challenges due to the controversial T-Shirts sold on Chinese E-Commerce platforms following the assassination attempt on Donald Trump during the US Elections 2024 campaign.
  4. Beijing, the capital of China, has been silent on this matter, not making any official comments concerning the removal of the T-Shirt advertisements on major Chinese platforms.
  5. Some US campaign handlers have expressed concern about Chinese businesses selling T-Shirts depicting a violent image of Donald Trump, which could potentially impact the US Elections 2024 results.
  6. The South China Morning Post also reported that a search on Taobao revealed the absence of the controversial T-Shirts, hinting at Chinese government interference or censorship in regulating advertisements on the Internet to align with its diplomacy objectives.
