Following a second accident at the Hunte Bridge in Elsfleth (district of Wesermarsch), the damaged bridge section is being lifted out using a floating crane. The operation began as scheduled, a spokesperson for the railway said. The new bridge section is expected to be installed next week, with work scheduled to be completed by August 25.

A inland ship collided with the railway bridge on July 23, nearly completely destroying the bridge house of the tank ship. The structure and overhead line were also damaged. Train traffic over the bridge has been suspended since then.

The closure affects travelers and ports on the left bank of the Weser in Brake, Nordenham, and Oldenburg, which rely on this connection. The damaged structure is a temporary bridge, as a inland ship had previously collided with the actual railway bridge in February.

The suspension of train traffic due to the accident has caused significant disruptions for commuters and businesses in the areas of Brake, Nordenham, and Oldenburg. Despite the ongoing repairs, there's a heightened concern about another potential accident given the bridge's history of collisions.
