The Left will push for a third free Kindergarten year in Thuringia, disregarding the election outcome on Sunday. As stated by Minister President and Left's top candidate, Bodo Ramelow in Erfurt, the financing of Kindergartens needs a revamp, shared between the state and municipalities. According to his proposed plan, parents should no longer bear the expenses for childcare. This free Kindergarten year is part of a sequence of initiatives the Left leadership unveiled post-election as their 90-day program, aiming to ultimately make childcare and education entirely cost-free in Thuringia.

Left stays loyal to housing project

Ulrike Grosse-Röthig, the Left chairwoman, reassured the people that even after the election, their party, which has governed Thuringia for ten years, would continue to work diligently to address issues in the state parliament. Ramelow highlighted that despite the Left's majority of decisions in the red-red-green minority government, some projects remained unrealized. He advocates for the democratic parties in Thuringia to establish a stable majority government after the election on Sunday, ensuring project implementation.

On the to-do list for the Left is setting up a state-owned housing construction company responsible for constructing roughly 1,500 cost-effective rental apartments by 2023. Additionally, there is a plan to reintroduce legislation to discourage large investment companies from buying vast farmlands.

The Left's focus on social issues extends beyond Kindergartens; they also plan to implement an Election to the Landtag manifesto, which includes establishing a state-owned housing construction company to build 1,500 affordable rental apartments by 2023. Regardless of the election outcome, the Left remains committed to this housing project.
