Kassel - After the church roof collapsed: temporary structure is erected

More than three weeks after the collapse of a church roof in Kassel, a temporary roof is being installed on the building. The Elisabethkirche will be completely covered by Christmas, said a spokesperson for the diocese of Fulda on Thursday. First, the gallery and organ areas will be covered. The rest of the church will then be scaffolded so that further roof elements can be installed.

Work had already begun on Wednesday afternoon to install the emergency roof, which consists of partial elements measuring over 40 square meters each. These were delivered by heavy goods vehicle and erected using a 43-metre-high crane.

The cause of the accident on November 6 is still unclear. The roof of the Catholic Elisabeth Church in the city center had collapsed over its entire length. All 26 roof beams that had supported it were broken. A church employee who was in the building at the time of the collapse was unharmed on the outside, but suffered a shock.
