After riots: Another Eritrea event planned

Following the massive riots on the fringes of an Eritrea event in Stuttgart in mid-September, another similar festival is planned for next Saturday (December 2). According to the police, they are expecting an extensive operation in the Zuffenhausen district, as a counter-demonstration by Eritrean regime critics has also been announced. The Bundesliga home game of VfB and a pro-Palestine demonstration in the city center will also keep the police busy on Saturday.

On September 16, the police defended an event organized by Eritrean associations against violently rioting demonstrators. Opponents of the event attacked participants and above all police officers with batons, sticks, stones and bottles. At least 34 police officers were injured. More than 232 people were charged. After the riot, another planned meeting of this kind was initially postponed.

Despite the violent crime during the previous Eritrea event, another gathering is scheduled for next Saturday, which has sparked a demonstration from Eritrean regime critics. The police are anticipating a significant presence in the Zuffenhausen district, as they maintain order amidst the planned festival and other events, including a counter-demonstration and a pro-Palestine demonstration.
