Basketball - After Laso, Baiesi also leaves FC Bayern

After the departure of basketball coach Pablo Laso, Double-Winner FC Bayern also loses their Sport Director Daniele Baiesi. The 48-year-old is moving "his life's center back to his Italian hometown," according to Munich's announcement. He is therefore ending his work there in accordance with the agreed terms in this summer break. The Munich team does not want to put pressure on themselves in the succession question.

"We already have ideas on how we'll do it," said commercial director Marko Pesic during a press conference when asked about Baiesi's successor. "I'm not one who carries that into the public and don't feel any pressure to do so immediately." The Bayern will be "a few weeks ahead of the public" in their plans. The role of the Sport Director will require "more support" in the future, explained Pesic.

A new coach? "As soon as possible"

The new coach should ideally be in place by the start of training in mid-August. "We'll have everything by then," said Pesic. The coach question is a "very important decision." We want to clarify the personnel matter "as soon as possible." Laso (56) recently asked for resolution of his contract with Munich, which runs until 2025, for family reasons. He signed a new contract with his home team Baskonia until the summer of 2027.

Ibaka is to be kept

Baiesi was first hired by league rival Bamberg in 2014, before joining Munich in 2017. "We knew for a long time that for Daniele, after a decade in Germany, the desire for change was in the air. We regret that very much and wish him all the best for the future," said Pesic.

The long-standing NBA professional Serge Ibaka (34) is to remain in Munich according to the wish of the Bayern commercial director. "We want to keep him. We have made him a very good offer for our relationship," said Pesic. Ibaka is important to us to win the Euroleague. Pesic also expects decisions soon in the important personnel matters of Isaac Bonga (24) and Nick Weiler-Babb (28).

The role of the Sport Director at FC Bayern Munich, previously held by Daniele Baiesi, will require more support in the future, as mentioned by commercial director Marko Pesic. Baiesi, who is moving back to his Italian hometown, had served as Sport Director for Munich's basketball team since 2017, after previously working for league rival Bamberg.

The departure of Pablo Laso as basketball coach has also left a vacancy at FC Bayern Munich, and according to Pesic, the new coach should ideally be in place by the start of training in mid-August. The team is eager to clarify this personnel matter "as soon as possible."

Despite the changes in coaching and management, FC Bayern Munich is determined to keep long-standing NBA professional Serge Ibaka (34) in their ranks, as Pesic revealed they have made him a "very good offer for our relationship." Ibaka is considered crucial for the team's ambitions to win the Euroleague.

In addition to Ibaka, FC Bayern Munich is also expectant about decisions in the important personnel matters of Isaac Bonga (24) and Nick Weiler-Babb (28). The team is clearly focused on reinforcements and maintaining their strong squad, even in light of recent changes.
