- After jumping from the tenth floor, death from internal injuries.
After jumping from a 10-meter diving board in Bremen, a young man is believed to have died from internal injuries. The 23-year-old hit the water chest-first and sustained fatal injuries, according to a police spokesperson. "It was a terrible accident." The case is now closed for investigators.
According to Bremen's baths, two lifeguards observed the man's poor jump and landing on Monday afternoon. "We believe he fell unluckily," said a spokesperson for Bremen's baths. The 23-year-old resurfaced initially but made uncertain swimming movements, with his condition visibly deteriorating. The lifeguards reacted immediately, pulling him out of the water and administering first aid, but to no avail.
Such an incident has never occurred in Bremen before. "There are always people who land badly, but they usually just have a red behind, maybe a bruise or an ear injury," said the spokesperson for Bremen's baths. This case was not comparable. "It was simply a very, very tragic accident." A crisis intervention team is supporting staff, and the 10-meter board remains closed out of respect. "We can't just carry on."
Specially trained staff always supervise the diving towers, emphasized the spokesperson for Bremen's baths. They ensure, among other things, that no children fall into the water during rough play and only experienced swimmers dive. Those who have jumped from the three, five, and seven-and-a-half-meter boards can attempt the highest. "You should earn the 10-meter dive to be able to assess the jump," said the spokesperson. When diving from 10 meters, one reaches a speed of approximately 50 kilometers per hour and should aim to enter the pool with minimal contact with the water surface. "The smaller the contact area, the less severe the impact."
The police were informed about the tragic accident at the Bremen baths. Officers arrived on the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the young man's death.
Following the incident, the police are calling for more safety measures to be implemented on the 10-meter diving board to prevent such accidents in the future.
