After IT-glitch: Operations at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport largely normal again
At Friday, a IT-issue caused several hours long disruption at numerous airports worldwide. The main cause was a faulty update in a antivirus program from the US company Crowdstrike for applications of the Microsoft program Windows. In Germany, in the morning, the BER was particularly affected, where nearly no take-offs and landings were possible. The systems could be restarted again in late morning. However, due to a backlog of planes, there were further delays.
Flight operations at BER were also slightly disrupted on Saturday. Two connections from New York, which were supposed to land in Berlin in the morning, were cancelled by the airlines. A spokesperson further stated that some flights of the airlines were overbooked. The departure operations were "regular and smooth". Exemption permits for 19 night flights were granted in the night from Saturday to allow for departures.
The IT-issue at Crowdstrike, affecting Windows applications, led to a significant disturbance at Berlin Airport, also known as BER, causing numerous flight disruptions. The faulty antivirus program update was the primary cause. After the morning chaos, systems at Berlin Brandenburg Airport were successfully restarted, but delayed take-offs and landings continued due to a backlog. Saturday saw minor flight disruptions at BER as well, with two New York-bound flights getting cancelled. The situation at Berlin Airport, Berlin, Germany, continues to be monitored by the AFP.
