After gala in the Europa League: SC boosts self-confidence

A tailwind going into the next league game: SC Freiburg are aiming for their first win since 2019 against RB Leipzig. One part of the team in particular picked up points in the 5:0 win against Bačka Topola.

After gala in the Europa League: SC boosts self-confidence

The highest win in the club's history at international level gives SC Freiburg confidence for the clash with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. "We know what to expect there. But it gives us real mental strength that we have won three out of four games in the Europa League," said coach Christian Streich after the 5:0 (1:0) gala against FK TSC Bačka Topola from Serbia.

With nine points after four matchdays, Freiburg have the best chance of winning Group A and qualifying directly for the round of 16. The intermediate round of the lower-ranked Conference League is already assured.

After conceding six goals in the previous two competitive matches, the concentrated defensive work was a positive. However, the defense was hardly challenged on Thursday evening. "The objective was to stand well and play forward from a good and stable formation, we did that well and we have to continue on this path," said midfielder Nicolas Höfler.

Sport-Club will face the DFB Cup winners from Saxony on Sunday evening (7.30 p.m./DAZN) at the end of the eleventh matchday. However, RB is not a good place for the team from Breisgau. Their last win came on October 26, 2019, with Höfler and Nils Petersen, who has since retired, scoring in the 2:1 victory.

SC Freiburg's impressive Europa League performance against Baçka Topola, winning 5-0, has boosted their confidence for their upcoming Bundesliga clash against RB Leipzig. In the Europa League group stage, SC Freiburg is currently leading Group A with nine points, ensuring a spot in the intermediate round of the Conference League at the very least.
