Murder - After fatal shooting in Erfurt: suspect in custody
A 48-year-old man from Erfurt has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder. According to the Erfurt public prosecutor Hannes Grüneisen, who spoke to dpa on inquiry on Saturday, the man was brought into pre-trial detention by a judge's order. The man is suspected of being responsible for the violent death of a 39-year-old man in Erfurt two days ago. The victim had gunshot wounds.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is being charged with murder for base reasons, according to the prosecutor. The man was arrested by criminal investigators and the prosecutor's office in the city center of Erfurt during the night on Saturday.
According to the forensic examinations, the victim died from gunshot wounds. The prosecutor declined to comment on the weapon or media reports suggesting that the case took place in the drug scene. The suspect has not yet commented on the accusations against him, stated Grüneisen.
On the night of Thursday, a 39-year-old man was shot dead on a vacant lot in a housing estate in Erfurt's north. The supposed perpetrator was on the run. The police could not exclude the possibility that he was armed. Neither the police nor the prosecutor's office have made any statements about the possible motives of the crime yet.
