DFB Cup - After cup exit: Krösche criticizes Eintracht-Schönspieler
After the shockingly weak performance in the cup draw in Saarbrücken, sporting director Markus Krösche took a hard line with Eintracht Frankfurt's professionals. "We have to put our finger in the wound. Fundamentally, soccer is about tackles, accepting them and winning them. We simply have to start there. We can't always play pretty soccer. We have to see that we also get into the game through duels," criticized Krösche following the deserved 2-0 defeat at the third division club.
Just like three days earlier in the 2-1 defeat in Augsburg, the team had let a physically robust opponent get the better of them. "That's brutally disappointing," said the 43-year-old, adding: "It's totally frustrating, it's unnecessary. They're all basic issues that we failed on, and that's the annoying thing."
Krösche was also particularly bitter about the fourth defeat in a row in a competitive match, as the Hessians had recklessly squandered their chance of winning the title this season. "I'm already angry because we were in the final last year and wanted to get there again this season," said Krösche.
The team must now learn the lessons quickly. After all, German champions Bayern Munich are coming to Frankfurt on Saturday. "It's a complicated phase, no question about it," admitted Krösche. "Now it's about continuing to work and preparing for Bayern."
Whether the turnaround will succeed against the record champions of all teams is questionable. Especially as coach Dino Toppmöller has noticed an enormous loss of strength among his charges. "You can see that we're on our last legs. We lack freshness, also in our heads. The speed of action is not there," said Toppmöller. Nevertheless, they will "shake themselves up and try to do better on Saturday".
