After Champions League exit: EHC wants to "attack again"

After the Champions League exit, the professional ice hockey players of EHC Red Bull Munich are looking ahead. "It was close in the end and of course it's annoying to lose like that. We're out now, but we'll attack again next year," said attacker Patrick Hager. Munich lost the second leg at Swiss champions Genève-Servette HC 1:3 (1:0, 0:1, 0:2) on Wednesday evening.

In front of 5527 spectators, the score was 1:1 for a long time, which would have been enough to advance after the 3:2 in the first leg. Andrew MacWilliam had put Munich ahead in the first period. However, two goals conceded in the final third allowed the Swiss to celebrate and ensured Bayern's elimination.

"It was two tough games from two good teams," said EHC coach Toni Söderholm. The former national coach looked back on good performances in this premier class season. "We had some really good games at the beginning and gave ourselves the opportunity to compete with the best in Europe." That will hopefully help with the team's long-term development.

Before Munich, Adler Mannheim had already been eliminated in the round of 16 on Tuesday against the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers from Switzerland and ERC Ingolstadt against the Växjö Lakers from Sweden.

Despite their Champions League exit, EHC Red Bull Munich's ice hockey team is determined to make a strong comeback next season. Patrik Lundqvist, another attacker, echoed Hager's sentiments, stating, "We've learned from this experience and will aim to qualify for the Champions League again, giving our all in every game."
