Accidents - After bus accident Erzgebirge: Petition for a safe route to school
Following the serious bus accident in the Ore Mountains at the beginning of December, in which a ten-year-old died, parents are calling for a safe route to school. "Unfortunately, our concerns have not yet been heard," criticize the initiators in an online petition that already has more than 1,200 supporters. In doing so, they are opposing the months-long closure of the connecting road between Cranzahl and Neudorf. This is the only reason why the school bus has had to drive on the sloping accident road for months.
On the morning of December 5, the school bus collided with the side of a winter service vehicle in Sehmatal, south of Chemnitz, and then crashed head-on into a tree. The boy died at the scene of the accident. 13 people, including eleven children, were injured, including a 59-year-old woman and the bus driver seriously. He is being investigated on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and negligent bodily harm. According to a report in the Chemnitz newspaper "Freie Presse", the boy was buried last Friday.
