After budget ruling: Habeck wants to meet ministers
The economics and energy ministers of the federal states want to meet with Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) on Monday (8.00 a.m.). The main topic of discussion will be the effects of the Federal Constitutional Court's budget ruling, as the German Press Agency has learned from circles involved. "Der Spiegel" had previously reported.
According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the meeting will be followed by a joint statement with the Bavarian Chairman of the Conference of Economic Ministers, Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters), and the Chairman of the Conference of Energy Ministers, Saxony-Anhalt Minister Armin Willingmann (SPD).
The budget ruling from Karlsruhe concerns money that had been approved as a coronavirus loan but was subsequently to be used for climate protection and the modernization of the economy. At the same time, the judges ruled that the state may not put emergency loans aside for later years. As a result, further billions of euros for future projects are at risk.
The household budgets of several federal states might be impacted by the Federal Constitutional Court's ruling, requiring close coordination with the Federal Government and Minister Habeck. Following their meeting, the federal states' finance and environmental ministers, along with their counterparts from Bavaria and Saxony-Anhalt, are expected to issue a joint statement.
