After Bayern coup: Eintracht also wants to impress in Aberdeen

Frankfurt will not want to concede the last group game in the Conference League and want to boost their self-confidence with a win. In Aberdeen, however, nothing is at stake in sporting terms.

Conference League - After Bayern coup: Eintracht also wants to impress in Aberdeen

Despite the lack of sporting value, the final group game in the Conference League at FC Aberdeen is of great importance to Eintracht Frankfurt. "This game has a certain significance. We want to take the feeling from the furious win against Bayern Munich with us and push it further so that we can go into the remaining games with a tailwind," said Eintracht coach Dino Toppmöller on Wednesday evening in Aberdeen.

Striker Omar Marmoush will be missing when the Bundesliga side take to the field at Pittodrie Stadium this Thursday (18:45/RTL+). The Egyptian is ill. "It was not an issue for us to take him with us," said Toppmöller. Especially as Marmoush will be missing the Bundesliga match at Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday anyway due to his yellow card suspension.

The coach left it open as to who will replace him. Toppmöller said that a full-back change was possible, but he was also considering a variation with the wrong nine. In addition to Marmoush and Ellyes Skhiri, who could possibly be an option again against Leverkusen, Willian Pacho and the suspended Kristijan Jakic will also be missing in Aberdeen. The Croatian will have to sit out a total of three games following a UEFA ruling on Wednesday.

Despite the fans' exclusion, many supporters accompanied the team to Scotland. Eintracht received a warm welcome at the airport. "It's a shame that we have to do without support. But we feel it and are happy that they are here. That's why we have a responsibility to play a good game," said Toppmöller. Nevertheless, he expects a great atmosphere in the stadium. "I hope we let ourselves be infected by it to some extent," he said.

The 43-year-old is hoping for good footballing quality from his team, good counter-pressing, full concentration and the avoidance of easy mistakes against a strong opponent. He therefore does not want to make too many changes. Although one or two new players will come into the team, he does not want to completely lose his rhythm and start with a good first eleven. "The framework should be on the pitch," the coach announced.

After the 2:1 home defeat against PAOK Thessaloniki two weeks ago, it is already clear before the final matchday that Eintracht will finish second in the group. This means that the Hessians will spend the winter in Europe, but will have to play an additional round against a third-placed team in the Europa League in February.

Toppmöller has already taken a look at the tables and possible opponents. However, many scenarios are still possible. That's why he hasn't given it any further thought. But he is not worried about any opponent. "We'll take it as it comes. I don't think any team likes playing against us. We have impressively proven that we are a strong team," said Toppmöller.
