After ban on Hamas and Samidoun: raid in Stormarn district
Three weeks after the ban on the Islamist Hamas and the Palestinian network Samidoun, a search was carried out on Thursday at the Palestinian Community in Germany in the Stormarn district of Schleswig-Holstein. "This community is accused of being particularly close to Hamas," said State Secretary of the Interior Magdalena Finke on Thursday. One property was searched from 6.00 am to 9.30 am. No arrests were made. According to information from the German Press Agency, the search took place in Oststeinbek.
According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the raid on Thursday covered a total of 15 properties in Berlin, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein. The homes of suspected supporters were searched.
On November 2, Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) had issued a ban on Hamas' activities and a ban on the German branch of Samidoun. The bans were announced by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) shortly after the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel on October 7, presumably to send a political signal. Normally, raids take place either before or at the same time as a ban is issued - also so that those affected do not have the opportunity to remove or destroy evidence. The measures have now been ordered by the competent administrative courts to enforce the bans and to further clarify the banned structures of these groups, it was reported.
The raid on the Palestinian Community in Schleswig-Holstein was conducted due to allegations of their close ties to the extremist group Hamas. The ban on Hamas' activities and the German branch of Samidoun was issued by the Federal Interior Minister as a response to the Hamas terrorist attack.
