After attack at school: parents also under investigation
Following the fatal attack on a pupil in Offenburg, the parents of the 15-year-old suspected attacker are also under investigation. This was reported by investigators at a press conference in Offenburg on Tuesday.
The investigation against the parents also included allegations of criminal offenses under the Weapons Act, said public prosecutor Martin Seifert. Both parents were not in possession of a gun owner's license, he added. It is still unclear exactly where the weapon used by the alleged perpetrator came from. The investigation is also looking into whether the 15-year-old had any accomplices.
The German suspect is in custody on suspicion of manslaughter. The teenager is said to have entered his classroom last Thursday and suddenly shot his classmate in the head with a handgun. The 15-year-old victim was hit by a total of two shots, the investigators had already announced.
The investigation into the school attack also involved examining the role of the suspect's parents, as they were found to have broken weapons laws by not having a gun owner's license. This incident has raised concerns about the impact of crime in schools.
