Stuttgart - After altercation: fan zone reopens
After a dispute in the fan zone during the EM game between the Czech Republic and Turkey, the public viewing on Stuttgart Schlossplatz will continue. We will "jointly with the police review the security measures again before the first round of sixteen game on Saturday," Mayor Frank Nopper (CDU) stated on Thursday.
On Wednesday evening, there was a dispute in the fan zone, during which several people, some seriously, were injured with a knife. A total of three people were taken to the hospital. A 25-year-old suspect was later arrested. It was initially unclear how the knife made it into the fan zone.
Intensive Controls
The managing director of in.Stuttgart Event GmbH, Andreas Kroll, stated, "we condemn this act of violence and the attack on people, which casts a shadow over the otherwise peaceful and lively football festival." "Basically, we will adhere to our security concept, which has been coordinated with all authorities."
The controls at the entrance to the fan zone were carried out very intensively. Several prohibited items were found and confiscated from the persons concerned. In all these cases, the police were informed.
Kroll continued, "after intensive talks with the security authorities, we will continue the Euro 2024 Fan Festival with its program on the free days today." This applies to all fan areas - also for the concerts on Schlossplatz on Thursday evening with Madeline Juno, Philipp Dittberner and Joris.
