"We want to support our Polish colleagues," added Curma. Polish transport companies have been blocking important border crossings to Ukraine for several weeks. They want to protest against what they see as "unfair competition with their Ukrainian colleagues". The Polish and Slovakian truck drivers blame the lack of sales on relaxed EU regulations for Ukrainian companies. After the Russian attack on Ukraine, the EU suspended a number of conditions for border transportation. On Friday, Ukraine spoke of a "catastrophic" situation at the border with Poland. The Ukrainian truck drivers "are in such a dramatic situation that they are planning a hunger strike if the situation does not change", explained Dmytro Lubinez, the Ukrainian parliament's human rights commissioner. Around 2100 Ukrainian trucks are currently stuck on the Polish side of the border. "The situation is catastrophic," explained Lubinez.
