- After a lot of sun, thunderstorms threaten with heavy rain and hail
After the heat on Wednesday, the German Weather Service (DWD) issued an official severe weather warning for Baden-Württemberg from the afternoon onwards. This includes warnings for "heavy thunderstorms with extremely heavy downpours and hail", with the southern half of Baden-Württemberg being particularly affected.
Locally, there may be heavy rain of up to 40 liters per square meter in a short period, with hail up to three centimeters in size possible. Isolated heavy gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour are also possible. The warning is in effect for the regions of Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Freiburg, and Tübingen.
The weather service advises caution due to the extreme danger from lightning, hail, or heavy gusts. This could lead to localized flooding and traffic delays.
Later in the night, it will mostly be dry, according to the DWD, before becoming increasingly cloudy on Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms are also possible then.
Despite the weather improving later in the night, a weather warning remains in effect until further notice due to the potential for heavy thunderstorms with extreme downpours and hail in regions like Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Freiburg, and Tübingen. Residents are advised to exercise caution as the weather conditions could lead to hazardous situations, such as localized flooding and traffic delays.
